Computational Developmental Neuroscience WorkshopThe aim of this two-day meeting is to bring together researchers who model neural development or who are interested in the subject. Additionally, it is hoped to involve experimental neuroscientists interested in computational approaches to neural development.
Organised by David Willshaw, David Sterratt (Edinburgh) and Stephen Eglen (Cambridge), and sponsored by the EPSRC Mathematical Neuroscience Network, the UK Neuroinformatics Network and BBSRC Cell Signalling Network (SIGNET).
There will also be a didactic element: experimental neuroscientists who work in developmental neurobiology will give an overview of their field and its relevance for modelling studies. Currently the following experimental neuroscientists have agreed to talk Professor David Price (Edinburgh) Dr Robert Hindges (Kings College London) Dr Zoltan Molnar (Oxford).
The schedule is planned around a small number of invited talks together with oral and poster presentations by participants. The presentations can be on either modelling any aspect of nervous system development or experimental work on the development of the nervous system where there is a clear link to modelling work.
The meeting will be held in the Informatics Forum at the University of Edinburgh in central Edinburgh http://www.ed.ac.uk/maps/. The workshop will start with workshop registration from 2pm on Wednesday 26th November and it will finish at 5pm on Thursday 27th November. Attendance is free (including tea/coffee and lunch on the 27th, and with some financial support for registered PhD students to help cover related expenses), but places are limited (to around 60) and the organisers may have to select attendees depending on availability. Registration closes on Monday 13th October 2008 and can be done by following the "more information..." link below. If you wish to give a presentation or poster you should indicate this on your registration form. The number of slots available for oral presentations is limited and the organisers will select suitable presentations from the submitted abstracts after the close of registration.http://www.visitscotland.com/shop/accommodation/book-edinburgh/Two sets of accommodation which are very close to the Informatics Forum are: The Kenneth Mackenzie Suite with rooms at £49 per night http://www.edinburghfirst.com/accommodation/accommodation-index.asp The Ibis Hotel with accommodation around £70 per night http://www.ibishotel.com
